Days of Darkness:  The Gettysburg Civilians
by William G. Williams

"Long after the soldiers of Robert E. Lee and George Gordon Meade left Gettysburg, the townsfolk continued to nurse and feed and bury the tattered remnants of those great armies. For every man, woman and child living in Gettysburg there were almost ten wounded men. Days of Darkness: The Gettysburg Civilians is the story of how those civilians coped with the most important battle of the American Civil War. They were forced to hide in the darkness of their cellars from the fight yet later deal with its consequences."

Reissued with a new introduction by the author.

Heroes Among Us
by William G. Williams

Coming from the innocence of youth and a small-town existence, Tom Ellis matures quickly as a crewman aboard an aircraft carrier, USS Coral Sea, in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet.  As he seeks to find his level of devotion to duty he struggles with the desire to emulate his hero father.  Tom and his buddies are confronted by the realities of deadly conditions at sea, confusing glimpses of a spy ring, the breakout of war over the Suez Canal, the uncertainty of the Hungarian Revolution and the violent murder of their close friend.

$19.95  I want to order this book.

William G. Williams served aboard the USS Coral Sea during the period covered in his historical novel Heroes Among Us.  He is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania and majored in journalism at Pennsylvania State University.  Williams retired from a career in journalism--with several newspapers and the Associated Press--and later in public relations.  He is a member and former president of the Harrisburg (Pennsylvania) Civil War Round Table, a member of the Camp Curtin Historical Society, and a member of the USS Coral Sea Association.
